Pittman Charter School students started the year off right with brand-new backpacks and school materials supplied by the community.
On Tuesday, July 27, 2010, members of the Junior League of San Joaquin County conducted its Second Annual Ready to Learn Backpack Distribution, where each of the students received a brand-new backpack, book, and a pencil box filled with pencils, crayons, color pencils, scissors, glue sticks, erasers, and a pencil sharpener.
“It’s so important that students, especially elementary school aged students, start off the school year with the proper equipment and tools to be successful,” said President Karen Carlson.
As a volunteer organization that focuses on improving literacy within the county, the Junior League identified Pittman as one of the lowest performing schools within the county.
