On Sunday, September 19, 2010, Pacific Avenue’s Miracle Mile experienced a contingency of dignitaries, local powerhouses, musicians and celebratory Latino and Latinas in honor of 200 years of Mexican Independence, Mike Torres Sr’s 75th birthday and 40-year Mike Torres Band anniversary. (see below for link to photo album)Prior to the free Sunday performance by his Band, Mike Torres Sr. humbly received certificates of recognition with signatures by Federal and State Officials. Stockton City Councilwoman Susan Talamantes Eggman spoke on behalf of the City “let me just express our appreciation for the contributions to the city for the last 40 years of the Mike Torres Band.”
“There are more people than we expected” said Executive Director of the Miracle Mile, Emily Ballus
“There is a huge appreciation for an event like this. Mike Torres’ music has sustained over 40 years, impacting more than one generation of culture” says Arlene Galindo, coordinator of this event and the Mexican Heritage Center’s month-long exhibition of the Mike Torres Band collection.
The event also hosted a Jumper for kids, food, Tequila tasting, traditional dancers from the Mexican Heritage Center and a ribbon cutting for the Miracle Mile’s La Palma Mexican Restaurant.
