At no other time is it more important that you, as a voter, to be educated for who you are going to vote for. Every candidate under the sun has been courting the “Latino” vote, as if we all are of one single mind. Latino’s have never voted as a block which is good to a certain point.
If, and this is a big IF, you are still being promised the moon and your life has not changed for the better maybe it is time to check out every candidate and see if their values are yours. Maybe this is the year that we do a good house cleaning and start with new elected officials.
As we look at all the ads and hype on television it is hard to wade through all the rhetoric. We hear nothing but the negative things about a candidate, but nothing about their accomplishments. Wouldn’t it be a nice change of pace to read a positive campaign for once?
We have several Latino’s running for office in our area. Are we ready to support them? Tony Amador would be the first Latino elected to the Lodi City Council if successful in his bid for one of the three open seats. Xiochi Paderes is looking to fill District 1 on the Stockton City Council. David Varela wants to add some civility to the Stockton Unified School District. We once again have the opportunity to have a Latino as Lt. Governor. He has shown to be an independent voter on issues that have gone against his political party.
We also need to look long and hard at electing Jack Sieglock to the 10th Assembly District. If he is not elected we will once again not have anyone representing our County who actually lives in San Joaquin County. Regardless of who is elected to Congress, be it, Berryhill, Cardoza, McNearny or Harmer, NONE of these gentlemen live in our county. We will once again be a step-child. Is this what we want?
We are once again being asked to vote for some scary propositions. Proposition 19 will legalize pot. We already have a drug problem within our community without opening the door for future drugs becoming legal.
Proposition 23 will only cost more jobs and small business to close up or move to more business friendly states. Companies will have to meet new environmental standards in Senate Bill 32 that could cost them thousands and thousands of dollars to comply to meet these standards. If they do not have the money to do this options they would have to downsize or closing the doors to their business.
But, more important than anything else: Be an Informed Voter when you vote on November 2, 2010
