A Ford Fiesta could fit 700 Camp-going students

Stockton, CA / Bilingual Weekly

The year was 1976 and Steve Kubitz was a schoolboy experiencing his first Science Camp. The memories stuck and now Kubitz —a 6’-6” chunk of a man dressed in suit and tie— is helping hundreds of other schoolboys to also experience Science Camp.

Of course, it helps that Kubitz is today Stockton’s Big Valley Ford General Manager, something that allowed him to give more than encouragement —he approved the raffling of a brand-new 2011 Ford Fiesta, where all the proceeds will go towards a fund to send 700 fifth-graders from different schools to San Joaquin County Office of Education’s (SJCOE) Outdoor Education next year.

So, on Thursday, November 4, 2010, at North Stockton’s Lincoln Elementary, sponsors, school authorities and over a hundred students gathered at the school’s parking lot for a Kick-Off event where, after some short speeches and the unveiling of the car to be raffled, naturalists from Science Camp taught students a typical Camp song.

In addition to helping send students to camp and the opportunity of winning the Fiesta, the $5 raffle ticket could also get buyers cards for gasoline. A hundred percent of all raffle proceeds will go toward the SJCOE Camp fund.

The drawing for the Ford Fiesta and gas cards will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at Big Valley Ford Lincoln Mercury in Stockton.

If you would like to buy a $5 raffle ticket to help send a student to camp and an opportunity to win a Ford Fiesta or a gas card, contact jackiew@bigvalleyford.com <mailto:jackiew@bigvalleyford.com>  or contact any of the San Joaquin County Schools at http://www.sjcoe.org/outdoored/fundraiser.aspx . Tickets will be sold until April 15, 2011.
