Teens to learn cope with loss

Stockton, CA / Bilingual Weekly
No one likes to think about the death of a loved one. Yet, when this occurs —and often does— many experience difficulty coping with the fact.

Furthermore, teens often grieve differently than adults, notes Carrie Lane, Hospice of San Joaquin’s Bereavement Coordinator, that’s why her institution will offer a grieving management workshop targeted specifically to teens.

The event —entitled Teen-to-Teen: Helping Teens to Cope with Grief and Loss— will take place on November 20, 2010 at 2:30 pm at the Hospice of San Joaquin Administration Building (3888 Pacific Avenue, Stockton)This 2 ½ hour session will allow the participants to understand grief, develop a plan to grow into their new life and meet with peers who are also grieving. Teen to Teen is free and open to any high school student; however, pre-registration is required.”We know that teens attempt to tough-out their grief and don’t always feel comfortable talking to the adults in their life,” said Lane “peer pressure and pride also can also hold them back from verbalizing their pain… We now have a program for teens to comfortably share their feelings of grief.”For further information or to register call (209) 957-3888
