California Cougars through Bilingual Weekly
November 27,2010 San Diego-Playing in their first road game of the year, a Young California
Cougar squad continued to show improvement but fell to the defending league
Champion San Diego Sockers 8-4. Falling behind early after a four goal San
Diego 1st period, the Cougars came back to tie the game at 4 all before San
Diego pulled away with four unanswered goals. The Cougars fell to 0-3 on
the young season as San Diego improved to 3-0 and undefeated in their 1+
years playing at the Del Mar Arena.
Scoring for California were Cougar newcomers Jose, Jorge and Omar Martinez.
Cougar rookie Adam Owen‘s first goal of the season tied the game at 4 all
early in the 3rd quarter. Former Cougar Majell Aterdao helped the Sockers
pull away with two 2nd half goals. Kraig Chiles also added two goals for
San Diego and Paul Wright added a goal and two assists. Chiky Luna finished
the goal scoring for San Diego by converting a penalty kick against Cougar
Goalie Jesus Molina, who played an excellent game, despite the eight goals
scored by San Diego.
“You’re always disappointed
after a loss, but this game shows that our
young team is improving and starting to play better together” said Cougars
Head Coach Antonio Sutton. “It’s encouraging to see our rookies step up
with the goal scoring tonight. It’s only a matter of time before games like
tonight’s are wins instead of losses. I have no doubt that by the end of
the season we’ll be competing for a spot in the play-offs”.
