Third Stars’ scholarships bestowed

Stockton, CA / Bilingual Weekly

Four University of the Pacific engineering students received a little help from above on Thursday, January 13, 2011.

The Jose Hernandez Reaching for the Stars Foundation —a nonprofit organization founded by just-retired NASA Astronaut and 1985 Pacific Graduate Jose Hernandez— awarded a $500 scholarship to each student during a noon ceremony at the Pacific’s Chamber Technology Center.

The scholarship recipients are Kristina McKay Hammarstrom and Kieth Luong, both engineering management majors, and Eduardo Nick Ramos and Linh Nguyen, civil engineer majors.

The scholarships, which can range from $500 to $1,000, are aimed at students at four-year colleges and universities who are working toward a degree in science, technology, engineering or math.
