Public input sought to protect delta

Sacramento, CA / Bilingual Weekly

The San Joaquin and Sacramento River Delta and is not only a recreation destination, but its one of the most fertile agricultural areas in California and arguably, even the nation, contributing billions of dollars to the state’s economy.
Delta water is at the heart of many major statewide issues and now the Delta Stewardship Council —the state agency charged with protecting it— is hosting a series of hearings to allow public input to help shape a protection plan. By law the agency is required to develop and adopt the plan no later than January 1, 2012.
There are three open meetings scheduled this month. The sole San Joaquin County hearing will be held on Tuesday, January 25, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Cabral Agricultural Center, located at 2101 E. Earhart Ave. Stockton,
For other public input meeting locations or further information about the plan, visit http://deltacouncil.ca.gov/ or call (916) 445-4500.
