Your mathematics or science high school teacher will have the opportunity to receive $5,000 … if someone nominates him or her by 5 p.m., January 27, 2011.
Founded in 1993, the Cortopassi Family Foundation has been recognizing outstanding high school science and mathematics teachers in San Joaquin County. This year the Foundation will be awarding a total of $20,000 among four recipients, with an additional $5,000 awarded to the school in which each recipient teaches for the enhancement of their respective departments.
The Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching Awards recognize distinguished mathematics and science teachers who motivate students to excel, support students in their academic pursuits both in and outside the classroom, provide leadership in curricular and co-curricular events, and encourage students to pursue a career in mathematics and/or science.
For eligibility, nominees must be full-time employees of their school district, have at least two years of mathematics or science teaching experience at the high school level (grades 9-12), and teach at a public school (including charter schools) within the boundaries of San Joaquin County. Past winners are not eligible for the award.
Teachers must be nominated by their principal, other school administrators, department chairs, colleagues, students, parents, or other members of the general public by 5 p.m., January 27. The person making the nominations must attach three letters of recommendations. Awardees will be honored at the San Joaquin County B-C Science Olympiad Finals at Faye Spanos Concert Hall (University of the Pacific) in Stockton on March 12, 2011.
