Democratic U.S. Congressman Jerry McNerney (CA-11) today announced that —despite fears brought by the January 8, 2011, Arizona shooting— he will hold a Congress at Your Corner in town.
The informal and open meeting will take place at downtown Stockton’s Cesar Chavez Central Library —located at 605 North El Dorado Street— on Thursday, January 27th, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
“I’m firmly committed to being accessible to the people I represent,” said Representative McNerney, adding that “in light of the tragedy in Arizona, I’m also inviting the public to attend this event to express their support for the victims of the shooting and write notes to Gabby Giffords, my dear friend and colleague.”
To honor the victims of the shooting, the Congress at Your Corner will begin with a moment of silence, said Sarah Hersh, spokesperson for McNerney’s Office, adding attendees will also have the opportunity to write notes of support to Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, who is recovering from the attack —McNerney will later deliver these notes to the Congresswoman’s office in Washington, D.C.
“Over the past four years, I’ve held dozens of these events and always enjoyed the opportunity to hear directly from the people I represent about their thoughts and ideas,” McNerney said, “I encourage people to come share their thoughts and ideas with me.”
Jerry I’m glad you care for the vets, but what needs to be done now is to bring the hospitals to the district so our troops can get help. Tommorow will be too late.
