The Consulate General of Mexico in Sacramento starts 2011 with a brand new facility.
After more than a decade at its former place in Downtown Sacramento, the Consulate General of Mexico moves its offices to a brand-new building with great location and high visibility in North Natomas near the ARCO Arena.
The Consulate will start operations in its new premises on Monday, January 31st; its address is 2093 Arena Boulevard, Sacramento, California 95834. The consular offices in Downtown will remain closed on Thursday 27th and Friday 28th.
The new facility marks a thrilling future for the Mexican Consulate as a service-oriented office; they also strengthen the Consulate’s role as local partner, gathering venue and cultural spot. The building is a standalone two-story structure, three times the size of the Consulate’s former premises; it features the following modern amenities to improve public access to consular services:
One broad reception area with information booth
One waiting room with take-a-turn system and children playroom.
One community service providers’ information desk.
Eleven service counters for the issuance of consular IDs and passports, notary services, registry of births and marriages, visas for foreign citizens, and permits to import household items into Mexico.
One Legal Assistance area with its own waiting room and six offices for private meetings.
The Banjercito and the Ventanilla de Salud counters.
Fifteen individual offices in the upper level.
One state of the art multi-purpose room for 120 people.
One art exhibition space fully equipped to host artwork displays, film screenings, live performances, conferences and workshops.
Elevator and handicap accessible areas.
Plenty of free parking spaces right next to the building.
This is the first time that the Mexican Government owns the building that hosts its Consular offices in Sacramento since they arrived to the city in 1942. The acquisition of this building reflects the Mexican Government commitment to foster Mexico-California relations from the State’s capital with a long-term perspective; it also shows the importance that President Felipe Calderón grants to the well-being of Mexican origin communities in Northern California.
