(Stockton, CA) – The City of Stockton has received notice that a San Joaquin County Superior Court judge has dismissed Stockton Police Officer’s Association (SPOA) vs. City of Stockton, a case involving the sale of alcohol for police union fundraising purposes.
The case, filed by the SPOA against the City, challenged action taken by Chief Blair Ulring, which ordered SPOA members not to operate a booth selling beer as a fundraiser during a motorcycle racing event at the San Joaquin Fairgrounds on October 16 and 17, 2010. The Chief issued a memo on October 15, 2010, advising SPOA members that the application for a Department of Alcoholic Beverage (ABC) license and participation in the sale of alcohol, even while off-duty, was in violation of Stockton Police Department General Order I-8, and could result in discipline.
Dismissal ends the case and sustains actions taken by the Chief in response to beer-selling activity.
