San Joaquin, CA -Nearly 500 Stockton and San Joaquin residents came out Saturday May 14th to honor and remember loved ones fallen victims AIDS; additionally they came together to raise funds to educate the community on how to prevent future infections.
“In San Joaquin County 34 percent of HIV infected persons are under the 29 years of age,” noted Daniel Corona as he explained that per every one person infected 5 others do not know they carry the disease.
The 17th Annual AIDS walk took place at San Joaquin Delta College were 500 people participated in 31 teams. “The walk exceeded my expectations as we nearly doubled the participants walking in comparison to last year,” said Corona. 100% of the funds are allocated to Community Medical Centers, San Joaquin Public Health and San Joaquin AIDS Foundation as they serve individuals with AIDS.
The event culminated on a health fair with food, music and a raffle, Corona appreciated everyone’s support the walk as, “we fund raised a bit more than $11,000 this year,” Corona reported.
