Stockton, CA -Thursday, Sept. 29th, at the University Plaza Waterfront Hotel (formerly called the Lexington) the Stockton Arts Commission will dedicate a night to honoring some of Stockton’s leading artists, art patrons and volunteers in the annual Arts Awards Celebration.
Today, June 15, 2011 The Stockton Arts Commission announced the winners of this years event titled, Stars in Stockton’s Galaxy. Among the honorees is Actor, writer and musician Chris Isaak who will be recognized for his Career Achievements. With the highest honor, The Star Award going to June Spencer, a Stockton teacher with decades of involvement in the arts, including performance and administration on many organizations’ boards of directors.
Other awards winners include:
Dean and Joan Cortopassi, Patrons of the Arts, local food industry giants who have offered their time and money to many of the area’s arts organizations for decades.
Tama and Aaron Brisbane, Comet Award, who created the spoken word/slam poetry organization With Our Words (WOW), which empowers youth to express themselves through poetry and theatrical readings.
Harvey Jordan, Arts Educator, the creator and director of the American Blues Theatre, whose dynamic gifts of acting, music and theatre have created magic at Delta College’s theater department.
Donovan Cummings, Arts Educator (Posthumous), a speech teacher who moved easily into the arts at three local high schools, directing drama departments and offering his ability on the Stockton Civic Theatre stage as well.
Renata Bricka, Volunteer, who has given her creativity and talent to many of the community’s arts groups through her vocal artistry and costume making skills.
Harvey and Gwen Addie, The Mayor’s Award for their work as teachers and for their organization of the Concerts in the Park music series held each summer in Victory Park.
