Sacramento, CAAeromexico, one of Mexico’s leading global airlines announced a new flight from Sacramento’s International Airport to Guadalajara Mexico beginning in July 16th.

Since 2005, Aeromexico has been attempting to land a contract in California’s northern central valley. In March 2007, a 3 to 2 vote on San Joaquin County’s Board of Supervisors killed a two year attempt by Aeromexico to bring an international passenger service to Stockton’s Metropolitan Airport. Greg Kane Record Staff Writer wrote on March 28, 2007 —report titled “Mexico flights from Stockton airport a no go”— Supervisors Leroy Ornellas, Larry Ruhstaller and Ken Vogel were concerned over the plan’s profitability and Aeromexico’s long-term commitment to the area.

During the first quarter of this year, a Fresno Bee news blog informed that “competition seems to be making Fresno Yosemite International Airport the unlikely focus of an air battle between Mexico’s two largest airlines, Aeromexico and Volaris.” Additionally, a flight from San Francisco International Airport to Guadajara Mexico was announced by Aeromexico.

“I am excited to learn that flights to Guadalajara from our neighboring county airports are going to be available,” stated Maria Muñoz, Stockton Resident. She explained “a few months ago, I had to drive to Los Angeles to take a flight to Guadalajara,” a travel experience she wishes not to repeat.

To celebrate the launch of these flights, Aeromexico along with the Mexico Tourism Board, the Mexican Consulate in Sacramento and 100 Amigos will host a presentation and informational seminar on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Mexican Consulate Office in Sacramento, located at 2093 Arena Boulevard. For more information on the event you may call (916) 441-3287.

“We’re very excited to launch these new routes. The growth and demand in California has been immense and with these new flights, we are meeting the demand of our travelers and positioning Aeromexico as the airline with the largest connectivity between California and Mexico,” said Jorge Goytortua, Aeromexico’s Vice President of Sales for North America.
