Stockton, CA — A colorful display of shiny cars, and motorcycles were the main attraction of the Car Show Community Health Fair hosted at Weber Point —downtown Stockton— on Saturday June 25th by Friends Outside.
Friends Outside is a non-profit organization incorporated with a goal to bridge families of persons incarcerated and/or individuals who are transitioning to freedom after serving time in jail. “We are an organization that provides services to families who have someone who is incarcerated and services for incarcerated people transitioning from confinement to freedom,” said Gretchen Newby, Executive Director.
The event allowed show car owners to exhibit the laborious task of turn their vehicles into large clean, shiny art pieces. Newby explained that the concept of inviting car club is “that car crosses all boundaries,” she said, “it does not make any difference who you are, where you come from or what you represent; cars are a big common denominator.”
Freddy Cañez, president of Stockton’s Viejitos car club, attended as “We are here to support Friends Outside, we brought eight cars and more than ten of our members are here today,” stated Cañez. Other car clubs as Chrysler 300, Sideways and Impala magazine also joined and contributed to fundraise towards programs for those who are attempting to integrate back a normal life after been in prison.
The Health Faire Car Show was a first for the organization which was able to mobilize several businesses and other non-profit organizations which provided information about community resources. ↓
