Former Nena’s Restaurant Burns — community says good-bye

Stockton, CA — Monday, January 30, 2012; 911 calls were made as smoke was billowing out of a vacant building at 1604 Waterloo Road near “D” Street — the former Nena’s Restaurant building was blazing on fire.

“My brother, Zeke… was among first to dial 911, when smoke began to pour out of the old Nena’s Restaurant on Waterloo,” Said Stockton Native Joel Reyna who reported that while there for three hours he saw fire trucks arrived to the scene and that the power was out in the neighborhood, CBS Sacramento reported that by the end of the night Seven (7) engines had been dispatched to the scene.

According to Stockton History group’s Ron Chapman shared, “Nena’s Restaurant on Waterloo Road… it was Murphy’s in the late 50′s and early ’60′s they used to have a chartered bus on Fridays to Giant baseball games.”

This report was written late at night following the incident; Bilingual Weekly was not able to reach Maria Elena Reyes, Owner of Nena’s Restaurant. Nena’s Restaurant was relocated to the Waterfront Warehouse at 445 West Weber Avenue, Stockton since the 4^th Quarter of 2011.

As the fire trucks departed, ashes covered the former restaurant in what may be a lost building. “We have sooooo many memories in that place,” Stockton Resident Arlene Galindo added.
