Stockton, CA — As the parking behind Stockton Unified School District’s (SUSD) administration building darkened on the evening of Thursday, February 8, 2012, community members gathered in a prayer vigil in support of SUSD’s Board President Sara Cazares. Cazares was hospitalized after suffering a stroke and a subsequent aneurism on Friday, February 3rd.
“Sara continues to make impressive progress towards recovery…” explained Larry Hernandez, Cazares’s husband, the morning of Saturday February 11th, just three days after the vigil.
Two hours after Hernandez’s update, Sara Cazares wrote on her Facebook, “Happy Saturday! They have started early this morning with a new day… I am blessed and I am going strong in my room, I have strength for the journey! Blessings to all!”
Sara Cazares was elected to represent Area 6 at SUSD’s Board on November 2010, and she is currently serving as President of the Board. She has a long history of community involvement in projects such as San Joaquin Grassroots Action (SJGA), Latina Dems of San Joaquin County (LDC), Dameron Hospital Auxiliary and Franklin HS IB Parent Boosters.
Cazares continues to recover at a Sacramento hospital.
