STOCKTON, CA – Stockton joined world-wide event to protect the environment and the earth as thousands of families gathered at the annual Earth Day Festival held on Sunday, April 22nd at Victory Park. 
“Celebrate Earth Day, Every Day, Every Way” was the theme of the Stockton celebration that attracts approximately 10,000 people annually.
More than one billion people in 192 countries took part in the 42nd Earth Day says the Earth Day Network website.
“The purpose of the event is to create awareness about the earth, about the importance of recycling and water conservation,” explains volunteer, engineer and school teacher, Martin Saltzman.
The family festival featured informative, interactive booths to educate the public on how to maintain a sustainable environment, how to live a healthy lifestyle and crafts and hands-on activities for the children. 
“We take advantage of our local resources in the community,” says Saltzman. The City of Stockton, the University of the Pacific and many other sponsors and community organizations came together to make this event possible.
Another popular activity of the festival is the Family Bike Ride, a 1.5 mile bike ride that starts at Victory Park and travels throughout the neighborhood.
