STOCKTO, CA- In celebration of mother’s day —one of the major holidays in the Latino culture— a group of women gathered at Kennedy Park on Thursday, May 10th.
At the gathering, Yolanda Herrera Tejada emphasized the critical role of mothers and the influence they hold over their children. ”My parents taught me to place importance on the things that matter; they taught me the fundamental values of life, among them that the key to a successful future is education,” highlighted Tejada.
It is with these same values that Tejada has raised her three children. “I am very happy to see how my kids have succeeded,” added Tejada.
Single mothers are equally successful at raising their children, explained Rosamaria Perez as she discussed the many sacrifices she has made along the way as a mother.
“Raising my four children alone has been very difficult and very sad at times,” said Perez. “Although it takes twice the work, the rewards are also twice as much; fortunately my children always helped me.”
Mother’s Day, is traditionally celebrated throughout the first weeks of the month of May. The holiday often is a time to reflect on the critical value that mothers hold in the family unit.
