STOCKTON, CA — “Meet Me at the River” was the theme for the second annual Delta Fusion Pageant, held at Stockton’s Victory Park during the morning of Saturday June, 30th.
Through the performance of giant puppets Delta Fusion celebrates cultural heritage and Stockton’s history; as well as, the Delta region.
“Each year we try to celebrate another story from the past, as well as to highlight how rich and diverse our community is,” said Ria Varedo, member of the organizing committee.
The pageant showcased a number of cultural dance groups; it offered food and craft representing a variety of cultures reflective of the area.
“Many people that came before us, met at the rivers, a passage way, a life source and so the river brought them together,” said Varedo as she explained this year`s “Meet Me at the River” theme, “at the same time we want to bring awareness to the community about the importance of water.”
Delta Fusion is the conclusion of a series of three-week summer workshops, with classes on mask making, puppetry, movement and storytelling held at the University of the Pacific’s Theater Arts Building.
