Opel Meriva

The new Meriva has taken a big leap in quality with deeper than it seems at first glance restyling. New systems for driver assistance infotainment and new more powerful and efficient engines.

The new Opel Meriva is still a very accomplished and comfortable vehicle access to the front and especially the rear seats is perfect. We have a large opening angle of the front doors which are almost perpendicular to the body at its point of maximum openness. The rear doors with its new opening are a separate issue. They are especially good for access to the rear seats better than the "traditional" in all circumstances. Especially to facilitate placement of child restraint systems the handling on vehicles with normal doors are an ordeal that has cost more than a disappointment to the lumbar suffered for many parents. In the Meriva not to do strange movements and putting belts or harnesses for children is all comfort. Only a sliding door is so comfortable.

In addition people with mobility problems will have an ally in these types of doors because sitting in the rear seats no longer be an ordeal. It's as easy as sitting in armchair at home. It has a handle for easy exit from the rear seats which are disposed a few centimeters more delayed threshold the back door. Too few to even consider it as an inconvenience. The interior noise level is very good the mechanical noise of the new 1.6 CDTI is good content. Aerodynamic noise is higher than desired probably due to the size of the windshield and sunroof. The road noise is well insulated.

The front seats are good version hold well the body and have a perfect hardness. They are trimmed in a similar leather good looks and soft touch fabric. The front seats have height adjustment on the driver and the usual tilt lumbar and length. The headrests are near the head. The rear seats are comfortable for two adults and two children with child restraints of the groups 0 0+ I and II with good legroom enough width and height but will most comfortable two adults instead three. The central square is designed to be used sporadically. The rear seats can be advanced about 15 cm and the three seats can be folded separately.

The trunk has a correct capacity of 400 liters. It is completely finished and trim with hard plastic side panels including an outlet bag hooks and glove to cover much improved anchoring because they simply placed under pressure. The floor is carpeted trimmed short hair looking like strong and sustained and has four hooks to put a network. Below we spare wheel emergency format if fitted. If we set the FlexFix have a puncture kit hosted on the right side of the trunk.

THE interior of the new Opel Meriva notable for the extensive equipment and perceived quality that make it very pleasant life on board. The entire interior is coated with materials of good looks. Both plastics used as plastic trims and textiles have good look feel and fit of parts is well resolved. I only found buts in some parts like the back of the browser screen or dashboard dome had improved anchorage.

For shooters the plastic used is little suffered and scratched and dirty too easily. In a piece so exposed to use something more resistant have been better. We have also found pieces of very resistant plastic on the outside. Plastic parts from abroad on the B pillar and the door spare black color with a lacquer finish are aesthetically very good but very easily scratched maybe too much. The unit we tested was riding the spectacular panoramic roof which gives a great light to the interior and a great feeling of spaciousness. As a whole piece of glass the roof has an electrically operated curtain to reduce heat in the hottest and sunniest days.

The instrument panel has a typeface and lighting clear and red very pleasing to the eye. It has a rheostat to adjust the intensity not only lighting box but the buttons on the console and the browser screen at the top of the dashboard. If we select more dynamic driving mode all indicators are put in red. The command activates the lights are disposed to the left of the steering wheel is a rotary knob which has good touch. Inside there are two buttons to turn the fog lights that are a little hidden but with a little practice are connected without looking. To the right of this control have resistors that regulate vertical tilt beam lights and low beam intensity and picture lighting controls and displays. The interior lighting is good.

The control for the computer menu is very intuitive. It is in control of the direction indicators. And the selector menu navigation is a rotary knob on the same control which is very inconvenient to use. If the claim is complicated Opel operation to be handled at a standstill they have succeeded because more than one is going to give a fright if you handle running. So we recommend its use in stationary.

The controls provided on the steering wheel are good layout feel and performance. The steering wheel is also very good wrapped in leather has a very nice touch and a perfect diameter. The ring is a little thin and we wish it were a little thicker. Has regulating the height and depth. The console contains the conditioner the controls of multimedia equipment and / or audio and browser. It also has four buttons with different functions such as enabling or disabling the traction control / stability for example.

Clearly anyone who watches the console for the first time so many buttons you can get to be recharged. Opel defended the ergonomics of this system and is beginning to change that stance in light of the latest releases which have wiped out so many buttons. The truth is that many of these functions use only the once as the phone settings and others are replaced by the command of the wheel. The same happens with the conditioner which performs excellently in auto mode making it unnecessary to use more buttons unless we have to defog the rear window or windshield.

The sound is very correct with a good enough sound. Well managed both CDs USB sticks and MP3 systems via USB or AUX in the latter case without managing the sound source with the vehicle controls. Browse for iPod has no problems with the same functions as the system itself. The browser has improved light years compared to the previous version. The new system is better at everything. Definition calculation speed ability to represent mapping etc. Now we can say that the browser Meriva is really good. If you also make easier the introduction of the routes would be perfect.

Behind the climate change we Selector 6-speed manual in our case very good performance smooth and well guided that being in a higher position towards very relaxed use. Behind the gear selector have command of the electric brake. This is automatically activated when starting off and turning off the engine. There are several holes scattered throughout the interior that contribute to greater storage capacity or in the case of children as passengers to turn inside the car in the closest thing to a storeroom. Us space for it will not cease. The hollow liked least by capacity is the glove. Shortly spacious just enough to put the documentation and little else.

The console beneath large capacity with the ability to move the armrest at will by a rail is perfect deep and very helpful even has a retractable mobile beverage holder. Opel has been rectified with the previous generation Meriva and has not extended the console to the rear. It has lost some capacity but has earned legroom for rear passengers. But the AUX and USB connectors on the console still being too hidden.

This was the engine that we wanted to try shortly after touchdown we had in the presentation. And I wanted to try in the Meriva because it was the car we tested that day. The truth is that in this test have ratified all the good feelings we had. The engine is much quieter than the previous 130 hp 1.7 CDTI. Is willing and nice because it responds well in almost any environment no significant delays in the delivery of power and is grateful to the request of the accelerator. Of course difficult to start decisively from standstill but the funny thing is that the version of 110 hp out much better from standstill. This engine comes standard with the Start & Stop system and works very well with a very soft stop and start.

In normal running engine is a frugal consumer considering that is the most powerful diesel 1.6 liter engine market is something positive. In our usual circuit with mountain road urban roads highways and urban tour has given us an average consumption of 6 liters per 100 km. It is a very good thing considering the type of vehicle you are what you weigh and development of velocities which are on the long. In terms of economic use would not be strange to be hovering around 5 liters of average consumption.

Dynamically is typical at normal pace car is always well established with a soft but sufficiently communicative steering. Conjugated with a comfort-oriented not get that pitch and roll movements of the body become apparent when we look tickle the impeller suspension. In the case of making a sporty driving something that is not designed this car it was clearly going nose to the time when the ESP put things in place. Our unit had great tires perhaps overkill for the average user but in line with current fashion degree but he took a grip plus our Opel Meriva which I appreciate.

In conclusion we want to make clear that this car has improved a lot with the restyling received both exterior and interior but the best is in its equipment and especially for new engines equipped especially the 1.6 CDTI. Really notice the efforts being made by Opel to improve their range engines and appreciated that they get as good engines. The Meriva seems for capacity convenience price and equipment a great choice for those who need a car with capacity and versatility but not too large.
