Having tested the top model the Dynamique version with the engine 0.9 TCe 90 hp three cylinder we now got over 400 kilometers Renault Clio Expression IV with engine 1.2 16v 75 hp which promises to be the heart of the new product range of diamond.
The Renault Clio IV is one of the releases of the year for several reasons already given in the test version Dynamique 0.9 TCe few weeks ago but the return to summarize for the forgetful: design mechanical / box equipment safety / comfort dynamic performance and price / competitive product.
However as we had discussed in the presentation of the model in the Hotel del Prado the range of Clio IV will nourish not only the most equipped model but the heart is the middle range the Expression 1.2 16v with 60% of expected participation. Then follows 30% in the Authentique 1.2 (entry level) and finally 10% for the Dynamique 0.9 TCe.
It is for this reason that we ask Renault to lend us four days a Clio Expression IV 1.2 16v to evaluate the dynamic and mechanical behavior of version promises to be the best selling product and to compare with the 0.9 we tested above.
Instead of carrying the beautiful glazed tires "Drenalic" 17-inch pneumatic tires Michelin Primacy 3 205/45 R17 measure the Expression takes a more conventional called "Passion" 16 "on brand Continental ContiEcoContact 5 tires 195/55 as R16. the rest of the style remains unchanged even conserving fixtures in chrome grille frames and front fog lamps or LED daytime running lights.
The dimensions of Clio Expression IV are the same as their brethren in range ie: 4062 mm long 1732 mm wide and 1448 mm high and a battle with 2.589 mm.
The instrumental is exactly the same and the driving position is conserved vs. 0.9 being comfortable for adults of any size with height adjustment of the seat with a generous and bounded along route. The steering wheel is also adjustable in depth and height.
The center console appears unchanged against the Dynamique except that instead of very complete multimedia system R-Link here are the simplest MediaNav that anyway takes almost the same amount of functions and a touch screen that also has seven inches .
The MediaNav the Clio IV is not very different to that we saw in Logan with USB iPod connection and Aux-In but also with Bluetooth connectivity streaming audio and satellite command. We do not have GPS enabled but in the short term that will change and you can update those models previously purchased. This equipment developed by LG is working properly with an intuitive and fast interface although not to the level of bright R-Link.
In the rear seats there is enough legroom for two adults. The height is quite good despite the collapse of the roof and measuring 1.80 meters as in my case no major problems. It's just more spacious in this sense that the 0.9 not having the panoramic roof which steals inches to hide sunshade. Center rear however it remains narrow as in the rest of the Renault Clio IV.
The trunk also has changes. It has the same 300 liters expandable to 1146 l. The relief is on the outside of the trunk and like the 0.9 is a different measure tire holders. It is a measure Barum Brilliantis 2 185/65 R15. This is not a problem in the input range (Authentique) since the outer tires are like that puts Renault parts.
Mechanically the Authentique and Expression carry the known D4F now also equips the Renault Clio Mine although with 3 Nm more torque and a little higher in turns (750 rpm's). It is a four-cylinder 1149 cc engine capacity multipoint injection and 16 valves that produces 75 horsepower at 5500 rpm and a maximum torque of 107 Nm available at 4250 laps.
The thousand-two compared to the zero to nine is presented as a more refined soft in their actions and impeller. Idling barely hear it and many will think it is off. It is a mechanism that is surprisingly responsive around town especially in low. Ojo is not quicker than the 0.9 TCe but knows how to defend well in traffic. Already en route as we shall see requires a driver that knows perform management based on the intelligent use of the gearbox.
Renault declares a top speed of 167 km / h acceleration from 0-100 km / h in 15.4 seconds. The combined cycle fuel consumption approved by Factory is 5.5 l / 100 km 4.7 l / 100 km route and 7.0 l / 100 km city. The tank has 45 liters and weight in running order of this Clio 1.2 is 980 kg.
In our records consumption were pretty good and prove that anyone looking for fuel economy the 1.2 will not disappoint. In town we 6.8 l / 100 km 5.5 l / 100 km route while the combined cycle we get about 6.1 liters per 100 km.
For reference in actual use the 0.9 TCe we had these values: 6.3 l / 100 km city 4.2 l / 100 km route while the combined cycle had checked about 5 2 liters per 100 km. Like this the 1.2 16v system has the GSI (Gear Shift Indicator) to indicate what is the most appropriate change for a more efficient management.
In this case also to have smaller diameter tires but with profile (195/55 R16 205/45 R17 versus 0.9) the ride is quite smooth and pleasant city than the Renault Clio IV turbo filtering with more elegance best wells especially in the rear than the 0.9 found some dry train to these situations.
But back to walk in town is where the Clio 1.2 feels more comfortable with mechanical capable of agile reactions floor as I mentioned. The gearbox accompanies the small impeller with a little higher gears (especially 4 and 5) than 0.9 compromising agility route but giving in exchange juicy numbers on consumption.
In urban transit engine allows us beside the fifth box able to run at 70 km / h at 2000 rpm. ie 100 more than the turbo spins at the same speed but with a sense of serenity to low returns that 0.9 does not feel as present as in this 1.2. Al tricilíndrico it feels more nervous and present while in 1200 just is heard.
If we are going to do with the Renault Clio 1.2 route dynamically maintains all the virtues already mentioned in the proof of 0.9. It goes very well in what is right and cornering it feels just softer than that but it is the product of tires with more profile since the suspensions remain the same and maintaining that feeling of going on a "Mégane scale III. "
Turning to the section of the behavior of the drive out of town we have a well proofed package sounding just above 5000 rpm which is more comfortable working in the regimen of between 2500 and 3500 rpm ie Ideal operating regime similar to his brother with a cylinder less.
Sorry not required at high speeds which nevertheless works a little more than the three-cylinder turbo engine. For example in 5th at 110 km / h the 1200 tour to about 3250 rpm while at the same speed 0.9 and up does the same at 2900 laps.
In return for agility in city and content consumption the Renault Clio IV 1.2 sin of having an elasticity route where your successes are highlighted. It takes 15.3 seconds to go from 80-110 km / h in 4th while in 5th achieve this speedup is lengthened to 17 seconds.
It is an engine that after overtaking costs resume speed making the maneuvers have to be thought out in advance. As is usual in such cases down to fourth or third to win agility will be the solution and then may crucerear quietly about 110 km / h spending little fuel as we saw.
The direction is therefore one of the highlights of the Clio IV. While it has electric assistance is quite comfortable to use and at low speed maneuvers feels not as artificial as if about some rivals. To park is very comfortable and allows us to accommodate the Clio into a pocket.
Considering the price no large equipment shortages. There are only a few to complain as the internal mirror with automatic anti-encandilamento rear electric windows or leather wrapped steering wheel all elements personally change hair by hair so it offers security in return what playing analyze now.
By way of reference the Clio IV received five stars in Euro NCAP tests. In adult occupant protection earned 88% while in child protection also gets an excellent score 89%. In pedestrian protection got 66% while in attendance at safety achieved a more than good 99% having speed limiter alert unbuckled and stability control and traction as standard across the range as in our market.
As happened in the 0.9 TCe ESP can not be released under any circumstances indeed nor is the key to try. Its operation is not at all forgiving and acts at the slightest slip. The brakes on both come with vented front discs and rear drums a classic in this segment although in practice do not work badly and after repeated emergency braking showed no signs of fatigue.
Below is the Authentique level which shares the same mechanics but lacks some items tested against: automatic climate control (air conditioning manual) multimedia system (has a conventional radio with AM / FM / MP3 / CD / Bluetooth / USB / Aux-In and satellite command) and alloy wheels 16 "(having plastic cups with stamped steel wheels 15"). Its price therefore is also more accessible: U $ S 23490.
Above both is the 0.9 TCe Dynamique to U $ S 28990 and equipment adds to the Authentique and Expression: fixed panoramic roof rear parking sensors with reverse camera automatic light switching and rain sensor hands-free card opening and on / off per button Eco-Mode Start & Stop system with energy recovery braking multimedia R-Link system with touch screen 7 "USB / iPod / Bluetooth / Aux-In / GPS systems Eco Coaching connections and Eco Monitoring audio streaming voice recognition and satellite command and alloy wheels 17 ".
The competition this Clio IV Expression is: Chevrolet Sonic Hatchback 1.6 LT (U $ S 24990) Citroen C3 1.5 Tendance (U $ S 24690) Fiat Punto 1.4 Attractive (U $ S 22990) Ford Fiesta Kinetic SE Plus 1.6 Hatchback (U $ S 26990) Hyundai Accent Hatchback 1.4 GL Super Full (U $ S 25990) 5-door Kia Rio 1.4 CVVT (U $ S 25990) Peugeot 208 Active Level 2 5 door 1.2 VTi (U $ S 24990 ) and Suzuki Swift 1.4 VVT-i GLX M / T (U $ S 25990).
You see the values are much more even than in the comparison between the Renault Clio IV 0.9 TCe and their rivals. 1.2 Expression Here's has a pretty toughest fight as several of its competitors equal in price although some rivals offer far less equipment than the Renault but all without exception have more powerful engines than the 1.2 16v 75 hp. for the other reviews about the newest cars visit here.
