First test of 2015 and started with the second generation of Renault Sandero Stepway. For four days and more than 350 km we evaluate the range-topping variant called Privilege with the known K4M 1.6 16v engine 112 horsepower. Full evaluation below.

Unlike Logan which completely changed her body in the case of new Sanderos Renault maintained a fairly similar to the previous version architecture but completely renovating the front and rear sections with a more modern look. The mechanical section did not change much keeping the classic 1.6 16v engine with 112 hp now.

The price of the evaluated version of U $ S 24590 and the warranty is two years or 50000 km. Below there is a variant Expression U $ S 1000 value more accessible ie U $ S 23590. Let's start with the evaluation model.

Seen from the profile where fewer changes appear when compared to the previous Sandero Stepway. There are newer ribs on the doors giving a more muscular look while the clearance remains one of the most striking features of this version with 190 mm above the ground ie 40 mm more than the conventional Sandero.

This is also helped by the tires while not mixed use as some rivals segment are quite apt to leave the asphalt especially to go to earth. They're Bridgestone Turanza ER300 in size 205/55 R16. Rubbers are growing over the previous Stepway which had a 195/60 R16.

This new Stepway measures 4066 mm long 1733 mm wide and 1536 mm high with a wheelbase of 2590 mm. If we put face to face with its predecessor we see that there are slight variations. Grows 6 mm along wins width 28 mm and the top 23. Anyway now we will see in the section inside your strongest point remains intact.

Inside the Renault Sandero Stepway is still king of the B segment when it comes to space concerns. By accessing by huge doors (ranging from the basement to the roof edge) we find a generous interior in all directions and identical to that of his brother sedan the Logan presentation. Another highlight is the visibility in all directions thanks to large glass surfaces and the obvious the driving position.

This is another aspect that remains unchanged from the previous model. It has height adjustment of the seat which allows lower the seat but even sitting in the lowest position he will travel very high. This is something that many users appreciate Stepway so in that sense the second generation did not disappoint.

In the center console known multimedia system Renault MediaNav appears in this case his generation 1.2. It is an interface developed by the French company and South Korea's LG with USB and Aux-In connections but also with Bluetooth connectivity streaming audio and satellite command. In the unit we tested the GPS was not installed but since early January Renault is already offering it on all products with this screen and updating it in those who have previously purchased.

Another factor "winning team do not touch" of this product is the mechanical section. As in other markets such as Brazil or Russia (see note) it equips the 1.6 8v have here in the conventional Sandero the Stepway for our country retained the classic and famous driver K4M.

It is an engine although used several years ago by Renault also very reliable and a favorite among followers of the diamond for your reply and benefits provided. It has a displacement of 1598 cc 16 valve 112 hp at 5750 rpm and a torque of 145 Nm at 3750 laps this pair.

While with 6 hp and 3 Nm more power and torque than before the Sandero Stepway still displaying bring this engine under the hood. It is progressive and extremely agile in the city while en route lets take a rather jolly well paced although it goes a little screwed into the upper area of the tachometer. It is a driver who climbs fast laps and murmuring something above 4000 rpm.

Renault declares an acceleration of 0-100 km / h in 11.3 seconds a top speed of 169 km / h while consumption is in urban cycle 9.3 l / 100 km 5.9 l / 100 km en route and the mixed brand gives about 7.2 liters per 100 km.

During the evaluation we obtained the following figures: in town we achieve 10.5 l / 100 km while en route and in the combined cycle the values were 7.1 and 8.8 liters per 100 kilometers respectively. The fuel tank 50 liters load whereas Kerb weight is 1127 kg.

dynamic behavior

The Stepway is a great partner for our streets. The clearance of 190 mm before he plays into wells and humps while suspensions have a fucking soft fit and filter as few irregularities of the Creoles roads. It is one of those cars in which a sleeper or a railroad is a mere joke to its owner.

I would note robust level chassis and tires now 55 profile convey some resilience to some sections of the road. But precisely this is the result of its size not on the setting of the suspensions. In town is a very comfortable vehicle whereas mechanical accompanied by a spirited and energetic responses from low rpm impeller.

In turn as previously stated mechanics can work at relatively low speeds without losing performance. Traveling at about 70 km / h 1.6 traveling at 2000 laps with the fifth connected. Not markedly noisiness and the interior is relatively well isolated from the motor city leaving only heard above 4000 rpm.

The mechanical performance of the route remains a highlight as in town. The gearbox is well staged but with a rather long path selector. Knows how to use up the last of the 112 hp although these marches together also do work extra hours cruising speeds. For example at 110 km / h the K4M moves at 3200 rpm in fifth. It is not something to put between "against" since all contemporaneous this thousand and six suffer from the same mechanics.

The Privilege proven variant is the most equipped of the two offered in our market. It offers standard: electric pack (levantavidrios mirrors and blocking) automatic climate control internal opening of the fuel tank and trunk adjustable driver seat height onboard computer folding rear seatback 60:40 shift indicator GSI (Gear Shift Indicator) power steering height adjustable steering wheel peripheral alarm front fog lights longitudinal roof bars MediaNav 1.2 multimedia system with USB / iPod / Bluetooth / Aux-In connections commands the wheel and systems Coaching and Eco Eco Monitoring rear parking sensors regulator and speed limiter mixed fabric upholstery / faux leather and alloy wheels 16 "'Panache' on 205/55 R16 tires.

The Expression meanwhile has outside mirrors with manual and black Color command air conditioning cloth upholstery CCT (Cover Carving Techonology) rear levantavidrios manuals audio system 3D Sound by Arkamys with CD / MP3 / Aux-In / USB / Bluetooth and satellite command.

In this respect there was no change in the Sandero Stepway I just kept the same as the previous version had been offering. The entire range is standard: dual front airbags and ABS brakes with EBD systems. There are even optional side and curtain airbags nor traction control or stability for this price and more on top of Privilege range variant should be offered.

The brakes are ventilated discs on the front axle and rear drums are. Due to the height of the body usually just the tail swing required braking but nothing to be alarmed. The cabin has four three-point inertia seat belts and three rear headrests. Only missing the third three-point belt and ISOFIX child seats.

Price warranty and competitors

The Renault Sandero Stepway evaluated corresponds to the Privilege version which in our country is marketed at a price of U $ S 24590 and guaranteed for 2 years or 50000 km. It is a correct value considering that it increased comfort equipment from the previous version but without changing the retail value. Moreover it is the same as the one we tested in 2011.

Below is the Expression level which shares the same mechanics but lacks some items tested against. Its price therefore is also more accessible but not both: U $ S 24590. Being only U $ S 1.000 below and losing a few elements against Privilege not to wonder that the top end is the best selling two (85% versus 15%).

That is why your direct competitors are products that are presented with the same nature as the model of the diamond. They are the Great Wall Voleex C20 R City 1.5 VVT (U $ S 19950) Great Wall M4 1.5 VVT (U $ S 21990) and Volkswagen CrossFox 1.6 Highline (U $ S 26490) which in 2015 will undergo a renovation (see note).

While there have been no major changes in dynamics and mechanical material from the previous Stepway Renault has refined a bit to one of its most successful products. It has a fairly well resolved design and now presents a rather more elaborate and better interior than in the two previous installments.

Another positive point was to keep the K4M mechanics with 16 valves an impeller while not the most modern in the segment remains quite popular among those who have had a Clio Megane or Symbol in the past. And in this Stepway retains all the features that made it so famous. It is elastic and flexible as well as respond well in town and on the road.

If all this we add that remains one of the most reasonable for those seeking a product of nobles suspensions an equipment correct comfort reliable mechanics and exemplary interior options we have a vehicle for their characteristics explained only their bestseller. If you do not believe me go count the Sandero Stepway the streets and roads of our country.

While it is not a vehicle designed for the family that's what the Logan Renault Sandero Stepway anyway can adapt to the life of a couple with small kids without problems but if you like to enjoy the beach or the countryside so as in cases where a Duster is too large for your needs.
