SOUTH STOCKTON SIDEWALKS IMPROVEMENT PROJECT BEGINS

INTERVIEW: I am Inspired by Civil Liberty Leaders
Stockton native, artist and arts advocate, Andrea Gutierrez, has a passion for education and children.
Upon her graduation from the University of the Pacific, she created Leaders of Civil Liberties, a print series in which she carved images of civil liberties leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr., Cesar Chavez, President Barack Obama and others, and printed them.
“I look[ed] to other heroes as I was searching for a father figure as a child…” explained Gutierrez. She found inspiration in national heroes, as they work from the heart and mirror her dual heritage — she describes herself as “Afro-Latina.” Gutierrez’s inspiration has motivated her to graduate while working and raising her two children as a single mother.
At her young age, Gutierrez has a strong history of advocacy for the arts and education. She was Stockton Arts Commissioner and presently serves as Board Member at the Mexican Heritage Center and Gallery. Her passion for working with children opened the door for her to work at San Joaquin’s Micke Grove Zoo. At the Zoo she headed the Zoofari Summer Camp teaching children about animals, ecology, and conservation; an educational experience she is now furthering to become a teacher. “I am working on my Master’s and hope to become a teacher in the future,” remarked Guitierrez.
Andrea encourages other women to never give up as everyone can achieve whatever they set out to do: “it’s about a support system, to have someone there to encourage you.” Andrea recommends everyone have the right people on their side. She recently found a strong pillar by her side, her new husband Jesus Andrade, and they are looking to move to the Los Angeles area, “I am applying for UCLA to finish my Master’s program.”

California Republican Women Federated Elects First Latina
STOCKTON, CA - It is an historical first, that a Latina was elected by her peers at a statewide conference held
in Visalia, CA during the weekend of October 22 – 23, 2011, to vote on new leadership. The
California Republican Women Federated is the largest Republican Women Federated Club in
the United States.
Stockton’s very own Carol Trujillo Hadley, was elected as the 2012/2013 President of the
California Republican Women Federated (CRWF). Her term commences on January 1, 2012
and ends on December 31, 2013.
Carol had previously held the elected position of the California Federation Republican Women
Vice President Central.
Her extensive political experience has ranged from being the Executive Director of the San
Joaquin County Central Committee (twice), Campaign Consultant for various campaigns
throughout the United States, as well as Campaign Director for Shabbir Khan, San Joaquin
County Treasurer/Tax Collector.
Hadley has volunteered for various campaigns which included local, state and federal offices.
She has served on various local and statewide committees for the Republican Party, ranging
from “Health and Aging” issues to include various other statewide issues. She has and is
presently a Delegate to the California Republican Party.
According to Hadley one of her proudest achievements was the formation of the Latinas United Republican
Women Federated, California’s only Latina Republican women’s club.
Hadley will bring her ideas of female empowerment to the forefront of political policy decisions, ” I
believe Republican women need to be more involved. It is imperative on us to educate, invest
and encourage women to elective office”, stated Carol.
The California Federation of Republican Women is a distinguished organization of politically
active women, who support, encourage and inform women throughout the state about the
Republican political philosophy and necessary participation.

(bw news) STOCKTON, CA – Stockton is ground zero for the nation’s biggest and most troubling water war – nearly 25 million Californians get their water from the Delta, which surrounds the city in an intricate pattern of rivers, farms and levees. But the Delta faces multifaceted environmental and political problems, which have led to the decline of fisheries, wildlife and water quality, and special interests are directing the dialogue away from resolution and restoration.
“It’s unbelievable,” said Lloyd G. Carter, former Fresno Bee reporter and President of the Save Our Streams Council. “I have watched this for 30 years. They’ve been searching for a solution to the Delta’s problems for decades. It’s what I call the phenomena of endless studies no results. We know what we have to do.
